"Paint for Freedom" Project

Robert and Maureen Van Herpe of Wood Items and More in Greenville, RI are heading the "Paint for Freedom" Project, endorsed by the Society of Decorative Painters.  This program encourages SDP chapter members to paint (laser-cut MDF) cards for our military personnel (veterans or active) throughout the United States.

CCMDA has been sent 10 cards.  Five of the completed cards will be returned to Wood Items and More where they will be scanned, cataloged, and sent to SDP for display at National Convention and to New England Traditions for display at NET in October.  Cards from these conventions will be given to military persons for Veterans' Day 2010.  The remaining five cards will be distributed locally to servicemen/women in our area.

Bob and Maureen will be working with the Gold Star Mothers to help in placing the cards in areas of need.  Completed cards should be returned by April 1st for inclusion in the SDP Wichita display.  The final deadline for the New England Traditions display is August 30th.  Cards are available from Claire and may be picked up at her shop, Not Simply Beads in Plymouth.

Habitat Birdhouses - Update!

At our March 20th meeting, Caroline brought in 12 birdhouses - donated by Habitat for Humanity - for our chapter members to paint.  Each painted birdhouse should be accompanied by an official form when returned.

The birdhouses can be brought to the JB Wood event in Attleboro on March 20th (see item below) or they may be brought to our next meeting on April 17th.

The decorated birdhouses will be on display at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree on April 24 - 26.

"Memory Box" or "Treasure Box"?

"Memory Boxes" are different from "Treasure Boxes"!
Memory Boxes are for families of infants who have died, so that parents can pt keepsakes in them.  This is an independently organized program not sponsored by SDP. Our CCMDA Chapter participates in this program.  The last group of boxes we painted went to an OB/GYN hospital in Lake Placid, NY.  Thank you to all who participated!

The Treasure Boxes program, to benefit hospitalized children 5 yrs. and older, is sponsored by SDP.  You may also paint these boxes on your own, and you can place a little gift inside if desired.  The boxes to to both girls and boys.  Please do not add embellishments such as beads, etc.  Contact the Society of Decorative Painters website for complete information.

April Meeting - Program Change

Unfortunately, due to health concerns, Jean Hoder will not be able to come and teach a class for our April meeting as scheduled.  Sarah will work on getting another program together for us.  An email will go out to CCMDA members and friends as soon as plans are in place.  Stay tuned!
